Utilization of food waste and other bioresources for biogas production, production of fertilizer and biochar as well as use of CO2 for the production of green fuels, but also political framework conditions, market conditions and guarantees of origin are among the many topics at the Nordic Biogas Conference 2024 on 22-24. October in Aalborg.

A strong line-up of investors, top managers and experts from large Northern European companies, the European Commission, the European Biogas Association and the leading Nordic research institutions will join in Aalborg on the 22nd-24th of October to exchange new knowledge and perspectives on the biogas industry’s contribution to solving major societal challenges.

– We are really proud that we can invite you to this year’s strongest biogas conference in Northern Europe – and this applies regardless of whether you are an investor, a biogas producer, a supplier of technology, knowledge or financing, a researcher or a customer for the green products that the biogas industry supplies to both companies and society, says technical director Bruno Sander Nielsen, Biogas Danmark, who is chairman of the organizing committee consisting of biogas players from the five Nordic countries.

Nordic Biogas Conference 2024 takes place in Aalborg Kongres- & Kulturcenter and includes a two-day conference, a large exhibition with more than 30 companies and a day with study tours to some of the world’s most innovative facilities with the production of biogas, fertilizer and Power-to-X fuels, pretreatment of food waste, pyrolysis and production of biochar, research into biogas production and biorefining.

– The biogas sector is more in focus than ever before, both in the Nordics and in the rest of Europe, as it has dawned on European politicians that biogas already plays an important role for European energy supply security, says Bruno Sander Nielsen.

Capture and use of biogenic CO2 from biogas for either storage or production of Power-to-X fuels will be one of the major focus areas at the Nordic Biogas Conference 2024 in Aalborg.

Great perspectives in biogenic CO2 and fertilizer from biogas production

At the same time, there are enormous perspectives in expanding biogas production and utilizing side streams in the form of biogenic CO2 from biogas for the production of power-to-x fuels – and fertilizer from the biogas plants, which ensures recirculation of vital nutrients from, for example, food waste, according to the organizers.

– That’s why we are really happy to offer an exciting and visionary conference that gives our conference guests access to the latest knowledge and new networks, while companies get the opportunity to market themselves to the industry’s most central players, says Bruno Sander Nielsen.

Organizers of the Nordic Biogas Conference 2024 are Avfall Sweden, Biogas Danmark, Biogass Norge, Energigas Sverige, the Finnish Biocycle and Biogas Association and Sorpa from Iceland.

The biogas plant Grøngas at the town of Hjørring in the Northern part of Denmark is one of the biogas plants that will be visited during the study tours on 24th of October. The plant is Denmark’s first “energy island on land”, where wind turbine power is used for the production of green hydrogen. The hydrogen is fed to a biogas reactor, where bacteria combine hydrogen and biogenic CO2 from the biogas, so that more green methane is produced for production of liquefied biogas for the transport sector and for power production. Grøngas also participates in a project that involves using biogenic CO2 from biogas production for storage in the North Sea.
